Making a Test Block from The Quilt Yarn

I spent a few days on looking at new patterns and set out to do a test block for one of them. Certainly looked simple enough if I could figure out the math for this block.

Wow, what an adventure...I have the EQ8 program which of course gives me the precise measurements which (after many attempts of mucking around) were at 6 1/4in:

Now, nobody is going to piece that with those measurements. How did I even get there. When thinking this through I tried to figure out the math for this block but it got very hairy ...

Jumping Off Points from The Snarky Quilter

While we art quilters, or at least this one, would like to think all our work springs fresh from our creative minds, sometimes already made sources give us a head start. Like cheater cloth, fabric that mimics the look of patchwork but only needs quilting, I have used a tea towel and motifs from a bedsheet to do the heavy lifting for two of my current projects.

Because I follow Clare Youngs, a talented collagist and print maker, on Instagram, I learned she had designed a tea towel for Werkshoppe, a company that prints original artwork on products like puzzles ...

Nutcracker Leap paper piecing pattern from Wisonsin Quilting

$5.50 Leaping Nutcracker as a companion to the 10″ tall Standing Nutcracker.

Here’s a bit of fun. The previous staid nutcracker pattern is now being joined by a leaping comrade. Add a little celebration to your life with this companion to the 10″ tall x 5-3/4″ wide nutcrackers with the matching leaping nutcracker 9″ tall x 11″ wide, perfect for a ...

Welcome to Day One of the Island Batik's November 2021 Blog Hop - Storm at Sea.

Bellingham Bay

Those of you who know me know that these are not my favorite colors. I find them dark and depressing.  Guess this was an added dimension to the challenge.

I turned to EQ8 to mock-up the color combinations to come up with a ...
